How to inventory a move
Inventory a move with numbered boxes and one spreadsheet row per item—not a vague note per box. As you pack, log box number, item name, quantity, and destination room; mark fragile and high-value lines. When something goes missing, filter the sheet by name or category, read the box number, and walk to the label.
Why box-level lists fail
“Box 4 — kitchen” helps stackers, not finders. Box-only notes fail find, unload prioritization, claims, and handoff. Make Items the source of truth—one row per inventory line.
The method
- Copy the free inventory sheet; keep Items as the write surface.
- Number every box 001, 002, 003… on two sides and the top.
- Log one row per item: box number, name, quantity, destination room.
- Mark fragile and high-value when it matters; add brand/notes as needed.
- When taped, set box status to sealed.
- Find with search/filter; unload by destination room; share the sheet or CSV for helpers and claims.
